Blazin' Fiddles
The band’s passion is gloriously infectious ... a much-loved staple on the Scots traditional scene for the past 20 years.  Songlines

Take a group of the hottest contemporary fiddle players from the Highlands and Islands of Scotland, mix with some wonderfully sympathetic piano and guitar arrangements and you’ve got the award winning Blazin’ Fiddles on your hands. And they are Blazin’; in the past decade no other band has quite captured Scottish fiddle music’s variety, energy and sensitivity like Blazin’ Fiddles have. Like rare single malts, each member of Blazin’ Fiddles draws the distinct flavour of music from their part of the Highlands and Islands. Blending solo and ensemble sets, aged with the occasional insightful tale, they all come together in a fiery blend to excite your senses. From remote village halls to the BBC Proms at the Royal Albert Hall, fiddlers Jenna Reid, Bruce MacGregor, Rua Macmillan and Kristan Harvey are joined by Anna Massie on guitar/fiddle and Angus Lyon on piano to deliver a musically intoxicating evening for all.

Jenna has toured all over the world with many different acts. She appeared on the third and fourth series of Transatlantic Sessions where she performed with many musicians including Martha Wainwright, Stuart Duncan and Mairéad Ní Mhaonaigh. Jenna has released four solo albums and appeared on many more recordings.

Bruce is one of Scotland’s most celebrated and accomplished fiddle players. Taught by the great Donald Riddell CBE, Bruce’s style encapsulates the finest points of Highland fiddle music – bold and rugged at times, lyrical and beautiful at others.

In February 2009, Rua was awarded the prestigious title of BBC Radio Scotland Young Traditional Musician of the Year. The following summer he performed at Cambridge Folk Festival, the UK’s biggest folk festival.

In 2011 Kristan entered the BBC Radio Scotland Young Traditional Musician of the Year and was named the winner at Celtic Connections Festival that year. She has represented Scotland at a reception hosted by the Queen at Buckingham Palace for Young People in the Performing Arts, and performed with Rod Stewart at the opening of Glasgow’s Hydro venue in 2013.

Anna was the winner of the BBC Radio Scotland Young Traditional Musician of the Year 2003 Award. A talented multi-instrumentalist, she excels in playing the fiddle, mandolin and tenor banjo. Though perhaps most impressive is her guitar playing – equally at home either accompanying in her unique rhythmic style or flatpicking tunes, her dexterity shines through.

Angus is a musician, producer & composer based in Scotland. He is also a member of The Halton Quartet who has also recorded & performed alongside Yusuf Islam (Cat Stevens), Paul McCartney, Bobby McFerrin, Craig Armstrong, Blue Rose Code, Eliza Carthy, Matt Costa, Bella Hardy & many more.
