We are very pleased to be hosting these two workshops this year…
Thursday 2nd August, 10.30am to 4pm
£25 per person; workshop limited to 20 people
Led by Rob Leckey ARBSA
Rob has painted all his life but it is only in recent years that he has concentrated on exhibiting his work.
Primarily, he works with acrylic paint, ink, collage and mixed media. The acrylics are applied with rollers, pieces of shaped wood, card and any found materials. Collage materials comprise of torn or shaped tissue paper, newsprint and magazine illustrations. Details can then be added with oil and chalk pastels, pen and ink.
Rob finds it very rewarding to experiment with colour, media and techniques. By the very nature of how he applies the collage, paint and inks he can never fully predict the outcome. He draws inspiration for his impressionistic style from town and cityscapes, boats and harbours and the natural landscape.
His workshop is for both beginners and experienced artists. Working in a similar style, paintings will be constructed in controlled but loose stages from the background coming forward, enabling artists with limited experience to confidently venture into new artistic avenues. Experienced artists may relish the opportunity to bring their skills and techniques, perhaps to a new and different style of picture making. Attendees should bring an image, photo or sketch that they may like to work from. He anticipates a fun and rewarding day. Refreshments will be provided, but please bring a packed lunch.
Attendees will be advised nearer the time as to what essentials they may need to bring.
Tuesday 7th August, 10am to 4pm
£25 per person; workshop limited to 10 people
Led by Richard Childs
Richard is a landscape photographer based in the wonderful scenery and industrial landscape of the Ironbridge Gorge in Shropshire.
He specialises in producing high quality images using a Large Format film camera and also digital equipment. Since starting out in 2004, his work has been published in books and the photographic press and also used for a wide variety of marketing with clients including Ordnance Survey, Marine Resource Centre, Visit Scotland and National Geographic Magazine.
He runs photographic tours and workshops throughout the year all over Britain for photographers of all standards.
For the Exhibition, Richard’s workshop will be based in the local area starting from Church Stretton School. We can’t guarantee good weather, even though it will be summer, but he will adapt his walk as necessary. Attendees will be out on the hills for about 5 hours but most of the time will be spent looking and photographing, rather than walking long distances. Refreshments will be provided at the end of the day, giving everyone a chance to reflect on their achievements. Please bring a packed lunch for the walk.
Attendees will be using their own camera but will be advised nearer the time as to what other items they may need to bring.
Bookings for these workshops will be open from around 9th April. We will provide a link here to a form for downloading, or you will be able to pick up a booking form (on our Exhibition brochure) from several places around Church Stretton (Scrappies, Barbara’s Picture Framing, Library) or art galleries around Shropshire. Bookings are by post only, and are taken on a first come, first served, basis.
