Richard Walker moved to Church Stretton in 2005, having spent his working life teaching music in schools – ending as Director of Music at Harrow School.

His involvement in music-making in the Strettons includes being one of the organists at Little Stretton Church, former Music Director of the Arts Festival, the organiser of the Saturday morning concerts at the Methodist Church, and also a presenter of music talks for U3A. He is Assistant Director of Music at St Chad’s Church, Shrewsbury, where he accompanies most of the major services and organises the 55 lunch-hour concerts each year. He performs regularly in piano duet concerts, conducts the Phoenix Singers of Shrewsbury and plays double bass in the Shrewsbury and Ludlow Orchestras.

Richard studied organ with David Willcocks, gaining both ARCO and FRCO diplomas in the same year, and both with prizes. He was Assistant Organist at St Mary’s Episcopal Cathedral Edinburgh and subsequently Organist at St John’s, Princes Street, Edinburgh before moving back to England in 1980. Forthcoming recitals include Cartmel Priory, Bradford and Blackburn Cathedrals, St Mary Redcliffe, and the Marktkirche in Wiesbaden.

Admission is free, with a retiring collection at the end of the concert.
Concertgoers are encouraged to have a pre-concert coffee and a chat, at the Ragleth Inn (opposite the church) from 11.15am; both the Ragleth and the Green Dragon (just down the road) will be open for lunch afterwards.
