Organ Recitals

During the second week of the Festival, we present three free Organ Recitals; details are listed below.

These take place in All Saints’ Church, Little Stretton, Holy Trinity Church, Wistanstow and St Laurence’s Church, Church Stretton. They start at noon.

Admission is free, with a retiring collection at the end of each concert.

Allan, one of our regular contributors, was Head Chorister at St John’s College, Cambridge, under the late Dr George Guest, and later won a music scholarship to Harrow School before returning to St John’s, Cambridge in 1993 as Organ Scholar. He studied the organ with Andrew Nethsingha, Christopher Robinson and David Sanger and as Organ Scholar toured Australia, South Africa, North America and Europe, as well as performing in broadcasts and recordings for the BBC and a variety of foreign broadcasters. Allan has worked as Organist and Director of Music for several churches, including All Saints’ Cathedral, Nairobi. He is also a gifted pianist – solo performances include Rachmaninov’s 2nd Piano Concerto and Beethoven’s 4th Piano Concerto.
Allan has worked at Malvern College since 2009 as Director of International Schools and is responsible for establishing and managing the College’s overseas schools in China, Egypt and Switzerland. He lives near Malvern with his wife Minnie and daughter Maggie.
His programme ranges from J S Bach to Walton’s Coronation March Crown Imperial.

Richard introduced these organ recitals to the Festival in 2007, and has contributed a recital every year. He continues to organise the recitals together with the Festival coffee concerts, and also the regular Saturday morning concerts throughout the year. He gives classical music talks, and is one of the organists at All Saints’, Little Stretton. Further afield, he is conductor of the Phoenix Singers of Shrewsbury, a member of Shrewsbury Orchestra, and gives organ recitals all over the country and abroad.

Anthony is Director of Music at St Chad’s Church, Shrewsbury, having previously held positions at Birmingham and Bristol Cathedrals, St Mary Redcliffe, St Peter’s Morristown (New Jersey), and Grimsby Minster. He is also Organist at Wrekin College. He is a busy recitalist: future venues this year include St Mary’s Melton Mowbray, St Peter Mancroft Norwich and Tewkesbury Abbey. This is his 3rd recital for the Arts Festival.
