Exhibition Workshops 2026

We are very pleased to be hosting the following workshops this year:

Weaving with English Rush

Wednesday 29th July, 10am-4pm

Led by Phi Evans

£70, including materials and refreshments

With a horticultural background and a love of the landscape’s natural fibres, weaving was an obvious career move for Phi. Primarily it was with willow, but more recently she has concentrated on the heritage craft of weaving with English rush harvested from the Somerset Levels. Being a pliable material to work with, it’s much kinder on the hands than willow and offers stunning natural tones of greens and browns.

Attendees will have the opportunity of making a bowl or basket of their choice, using a former or mould to work around thus ensuring form and shape to their finished object. As an experienced tutor, Phi will provide full instruction and guide everyone through the creative process. No prior experience is necessary.

This sociable workshop will arm those attending with the skills needed to take this art form to the next level.

Modern Calligraphy

Tuesday 4th August, 10am-12 noon or 2-4pm

Led by Alice Savery

£40, including materials, kit and refreshments

Alice is a highly talented botanical artist whose beautiful pen and watercolour drawings clearly show her love of nature. Her other passion is lettering, typography, signage and fonts, along with handwriting. Having loved writing since she was old enough to hold a pen, Alice enjoys nothing more than passing on her enthusiasm to others. Working from her studio on the Shropshire-Herefordshire border, she manages to combine both these art forms and produce beautiful work which can be found in various galleries.

This workshop will provide an introduction to modern calligraphy, instruction on the use of a dip pen, and provide the techniques required to create lovely hand lettering. With Alice’s expert guidance and tuition, attendees will have fun experimenting and go home with the skills needed to pursue their new hobby.

All materials will be provided, together with a kit containing the necessary items to continue this beautiful style of writing at home.

Botanical Cyanotype Printing

Thursday 6th August, 9.30am-12.30 or 1.30-4.30pm

Led by Julie McMahon

£35, including materials and refreshments

Julie is a photographic artist whose work centres on the interplay between light-sensitive chemistry and the natural world. Specialising in botanicals on silk and paper, Julie has refined the 19th-century Cyanotype process into a modern fine-art practice. She embraces the medium’s creative unpredictability as an essential element in the creation of her bespoke lampshades, wall art and greeting cards.

This workshop provides a comprehensive foundation in the Cyanotype process. Under Julie’s expert guidance, attendees will explore the complete journey of ‘sun-printing’ – from the coating of watercolour paper with light-sensitive solution, to the art of composing botanical specimens and exposure to the sun.

This engaging class will provide everyone with the opportunity to create their own unique Cyanotype prints and arm them with the skills to continue exploring the process at home. No previous experience is required.
